Kohl with Snap, Crackle and Pop
Kohl came to me as a mom with newborns from the shelter. They would have been put to sleep if they didn't find a foster home, as the shelter doesn't
have room for moms and babies. I named her Kohl for the pretty black eyeliner she wears (she's a hotot dwarf). She has the most expressive ears,
that look like a little black top hat, and she sometimes puts them forward like a bull - very unbunny like and exceptionally cute.
And her babies were named Snap, Crackle and Pop. Snap was adopted by a volunteer's family who later changed his name to Charlie. Crackle and Pop
were adopted together by a family who has since lost touch.
Kohl was fiercely protective of her babies and didn't like anyone but me near them. Once they were old enough to be weaned, she made herself
clear that she wanted to become part of my family, by sitting on my shoulder and kissing my earlobes. I just couldn't give up this 3# bundle of
joy. I officially adopted Kohl on 4/30/2005, and had the pleasure of her in my life for over five years. I don't know how old she was as we didn't
get a background on her at intake, but the vet seems to think she was much older than the six years I thought. Whatever her age, she was a blessing
on this earth and a very special presence.
Chloe, Dart, and beloved Kohl
I was worried about bonding her with my pair, Chloe and Dart, but they accepted Kohl rather readily. Chloe and Kohl played a game each day where Chloe
chased Kohl until they were both tired. Then Kohl humped Chloe's face to show she was in charge. They kept up this game every day until Kohl got sick
in February. And Dart just enjoyed the extra love and kisses that Kohl gave him. I know my buns will miss her just as much as I will.
Kohl at the SPCA Day Camp
Kohl was the best ambassador bunny ever. She was part of the Rabbit Haven educational program and was held by hundreds of kids each year. At one
particular event, she got passed along by 80 children and she loved up to each one, gave kisses, and just showed everyone how great a bunny can be.
She tolerated all the kids who had never held a bunny and was especially sensitive to kids with special needs.
I know when I go to future education events that everyone will ask about the little black and white bunny. The kids immortalized her in artwork and stories they wrote about her, and I know she's filled a special place in the hearts of many.
I hope my Kohl and Silly Bunny will hook up at the Rainbow Bridge and play together forever. They will make a cute couple, and it's time she had a
boyfriend of her very own that she doesn't need to share. I will miss my baby girl so very much.
Thank you to everyone who supported me while we tried to save Kohl during her mysterious illness. Your loving, healing energy helped her try
for several months, but she just finally told me her body was too tired to keep trying. You can honor Kohl by donating to the www.therabbithaven.org in her name.
