The bunnies have either been adopted, gone to rescue and are available for adoption now, or are in foster care pending space at rescue. For more information about them, or to adopt, please contact Anne at: annejmartin@gmail.com.

Munchie has now been with Rick in foster care for a week. He's available for adoption NOW, and will eventually go to RabbitEARS in El Cerrito once there's space there. He's doing OK and has settled in. He's a very sweet and gentle bunny who loves having his head stroked - he'll come over and present for it. He's mostly OK with being picked, carried and held. We've been working on lap sitting, and he's doing better with it. He's even giving a few kisses now and then.

He eats somewhat less than what we'd expect from a rabbit his size (he's a full-sized English Spot who's a little overweight). His pills are also smaller than we'd expect, but they're plentiful and well formed. He likes his mix of veggies, apple slice and banana slice, but doesn't seem to care for a strawberry slice. He's been mediocre about eating Oxbow Bunny Basics T (maybe he's used to another brand or type) but loves Oxbow Timothy hay. He doesn't drink much water. His litterbox habits are very good. Please contact us to find out more about him!

Thanks to the great work of Cindy Selene, Sally’s best friend and Anne (OES) Rabbit advocate, the final group of four rabbits were removed from the empty home on Tuesday night. Great work! Only two weeks to move and relocate 12 of sweet Sally’s animal family – That was a miracle. It was a great pleasure to work with these wonderful women to help relocate all of these companion animals. The two cats and 2 birds were adopted. Various individuals adopted a few rabbits and those remaining went in to rescue groups. Harvest Home Sanctuary took Petey the blind bunny. Sally’s Vet, Dr Harvey adopted the two elder bunnies (her patients) Sammie and Toby. The Haven has Canna. Contact Rabbit Haven for information on how to adopt those left needing homes. We will refer you to the rescues that are caring for Sally’s bunnies. Thank you to everyone that helped to secure rescue, placement and carried out all of the transport needed for all of Sally’s companions. I think she would be happy that all her friends are safe. Now she can truly rest in peace.

Sally Gunderson has only four rabbits left to place. There is very limited time now - Out of the original twelve animals, only four bunnies are left. Thank you to everyone who took in one of Sally’s feathered or furry animals. I am sure they are missing their mom and need a refuge very soon – Please contact Anne Martin at annemartin@gmail.com for immediate placement help.

Stardust Annie Munchie Timothy

March 23, 2011

Hello, I am Annie. I miss my mom!
She crossed the rainbow bridge - Now I am alone.

Hello Rabbit friends,

Sally Gunderson of Oakland, California died unexpectedly last Friday at her home. She had 12 animal children the day of her passing, eight rabbits, two cats and two birds. When Sally died last week, all of her animal companions were taken to a shelter. The neighbors tried to prevent it but they could not stop the action. Sally's sister dropped everything and went in to pick up all of her sister's rabbits, birds and cats the following day from the shelter. She did the right thing as the shelter had a large number of rabbits already.

The good news: The birds and cats have now been placed. Two rabbits have also found spots - Blessings to Karen of Harvest Home for taking in Petey! Only seven rabbits remain that need to find new homes ASAP. Sally's dear friend Cindy has been a tremendous help in placing and arranging for placement for Sally's children. The rabbits are well cared for. All of Sally's rabbits were patients of Dr. Harvey at Chabot or Dr. Bynum at VCA. Each rabbit was living in a two story Leith condo. The condo will go with them. Transport can even be arranged. The rabbits are safe now remaining at Sally's former home.

Time frame: Naturally, the rabbits are upset. They need to leave soon. They need so much TLC to get through this tough time. The caregiver comes in once a day to feed and tend to them, but they miss personal care. The family wants the rabbits to go on to new homes within 20 days or ASAP. If you can take one please let me know and I will ask Cindy to call you to discuss a compassion adoption and transport. If you cannot take a rabbit in but can help transport, please let us know.

Please help these bunnies. They need to get settled in new homes soon. Will you help them? If you can help by taking even one rabbit from this group it will help the rabbits and Sally's human family too. Please do your very best. Email or call me right away please. Email to director@therabbithaven.org, or call after 10 am 831 600-7479. You may also call Cindy directly at (510)530-0886.

Here is some information about each bunny:

Annie is a young (less than one year old) black bunny with a little white on her face. She is a very energetic bunny girl.
Star is an all white sweet bunny. He is about 4 years old. Sally adopted him at OAS.
Timothy is a dwarf bunny
Munchie and Toby are a bonded pair. Munchie is the English spot, Toby is the Himalayan. Toby gets along great with Sammy and is actually fine with all of the other rabbits.
Sammy is an all black bunny who is probably about 5 years old. He gets along great with Toby. When they ended up at the shelter, somehow Sammy and Toby ended up in the same crate. I bet Toby, Sammy, and Munchie could all be bonded with a little time. Sammy is a very sweet bunny. He was the love of Sally's life.
