Evacuations remain for the communities of Bonny Doon and Swanton affecting 2,400 people. Major problems and concerns continue to be the weather, steep terrain and limited access to the fire’s perimeter. Conditions continue to be very fluid and may change quickly based on weather factors. If the fire jumps Empire Grade this weekend, then occupants of Felton, Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek and surrounding areas may have to react quickly. Please keep monitoring the news or the CDF website above to find the latest information.
Several road closures are in effect in the fire area and are being coordinated by the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Department and the California Highway Patrol. Empire Grade from Felton Empire to Alba Rd has been reopened to residents with valid identification; Empire Grade at Warnella Truck Rd, Alba Rd at Empire Grade, Empire Grade at Ice Cream Grade, and Bonny Doon at Pine Flat.
