Marilyn and her Family
Update: February 4, 2008

Denali Shasta Lassen

Marilyn's babies are now 4 weeks old! They are very active now, running around doing crazy binkies and little bunny zooms. They are eating pellets and alfalfa hay, but they still like to nurse from their momma every day. Marilyn continues to be a very good bunny mom, grooming and feeding the babies each day. The babies will stay with their mother for another two weeks, and then they will be available to be adopted into their own loving homes. Once the babies are weaned, Marilyn will be spayed and she too will be looking for her forever home. Check back for additional updates and new pictures soon!

Update: January 19, 2008
Marilyn and her little family continue to be cared for in a special Rabbit Haven foster home. The tiny black baby, whom we had named Lucky, was unable to thrive after the stress of the shelter and the rescue, and passed away a few days ago. The foster family was heartbroken at the loss, and all of us at The Haven were very sad to lose Lucky. Lucky's three siblings continue to grow and prosper, and their mom Marilyn is doing her best to care for them. The babies are two weeks old today, and they are busy scooting around and test nibbling momma's food.

Sponsors are needed to help with the cost of Marilyn's spay, and for spay/neuter and vet visits for each of her babies. If you want to help financially, you can make a cash donation to help with via Paypal, or donate by check

Marilyn and her family were rescued!

Marilyn after her rescue
Marilyn's family
Marilyn and her family of tiny kits were rescued by The Haven yesterday! We were given less than two days to rescue this tiny mom and her babies. On Monday morning, one of our Haven volunteer families stepped forward and agreed to take the mom and babies into their home. The shelter advocate took them out of the shelter yesterday afternoon, and met up with their new foster family yesterday evening. The family of five is now safe and warm in their new foster home, and no longer in any danger. Marilyn is being a good bunny mom, and is nursing and snuggling with her kits, keeping them clean, warm and happy in their new home. The tiny mom is hungry all the time, and she loves her grass and oat hays, leafy green veggies and Oxbow pellets. She is receiving a special high calorie diet to allow her to produce enough milk for her growing family.

Marilyn will spend seven more weeks nursing and caring for her litter. Once the babies are weaned and she's had a little time to rest, she will be spayed and will be available for adoption. She is a sweet little bunny who will make a wonderful companion for someone special.

Check back here for updates on Marilyn and her family's progress.

Marilyn Needs Immediate Rescue

Very young bunny mother needs rescue. She must be out by Monday 1-7! Call The Rabbit Haven ASAP at (831)239-7119 or email at director@therabbithaven.org if you can help her.

This sweet and playful, 2 pound young bunny is now on the euthanasia list and we need to get her and her family to safety tomorrow. Marilyn came in to the overfull shelter in the South Bay and surprised everyone by having four tiny babies Friday! This shelter will not keep litters. Marilyn is loving her kits and is very protective. We want to help her and her children survive. The shelter is not a safe place for her. Can anyone out there foster her for a few weeks (minimum 7 weeks to 2.5 months)? The babies need to come back to us at 8 weeks of age. We can provide a pen for you, crocks, litter box, training and set up help. You provide the love and support and get to participate in saving one tiny bunny family from extinction. If you have ever wanted to help a tiny bunny family now is your chance. Call or email us right away please.

Marilyn's situation is dire. We have a very limited time to respond to her need. Given the recent storms and power outages we had a lag in posting. Please give this post your utmost attention. The foster obligation would be a minimum of 7 weeks. If you can help in many way of you have idea please call or email us. Please help if you can Foster sponsor, send food, all ideas welcome.
