Rain, Harmony and Their Babies
January 24, 2008

The Rabbit Haven continues to be called on by area shelters when mothers with litters of tiny babies require rescue. We take in as many of these families as we can, and we are proud to introduce two of our newest moms, Rain and Harmony. These two intrepid mother bunnies were dumped at shelters, and soon after gave bith to litters of tiny babies. The Haven will care for them and their children, spay them and spay and neuter the babies when they are old enough, and find loving homes for all of them. If you would like to sponsor the spay or neuter of one of these babies, or of the moms, you can donate by check or via PayPal. The little oes will also need adoptive and foster homes of their own soon, so if you are interested in helping you can email us at director@therabbithaven.org or by phone at 831-239-7119.

Rain
Update: February 3, 2008
Rain's babies are now a month old! They continue to flourish, growing larger and stronger every day. They continue to nurse from their mom, but are also enjoying nibbling at hay and pellets like grown up bunnies. These bundles of love will be available for adoption as soon as they are weaned from their mother, which should be in about three weeks.
Storm Cloud Windy Sunshine

Rain and her family
This is Rain and her babies, only a few days old in the picture. The kits were born on January 7, 2008. Rain had 10 babies but unfortunately 6 of them died before we could rescue them the next day. The family was transported during one of the severe rainstorms that we had this past week, so the weather has inspired Rain and her kits' names. Rain is also named after the shelter worker who facilitated the rescue. Her babies are Storm (the gray one), Windy, cloud & Sunshine (the 3 black ones).

Rain is a black lop. Her ears usually hang down but she also does the helicopter ears thing and they go in all different directions! When she is alert or curious, her ears are up. As is often the case with litters born in shelters, we don't know anything about the daddy bun. Rain is the *best* bunny mom! Her kits are all pudgy and active, growing like weeds. The four who came to The Haven were immediately given heat and help with nursing. Mom is eating excellent quality hay, pellets and greens and now the whole family is thriving.

Two weeks after she's done with nursing, Rain will be spayed and will then be ready to be adopted. The kits will nurse for 6-8 weeks, then once they are eating their pellets, hay and greens on their own they will also become available to go to their forever homes. We will keep you updated on this family's progress and let you know when they are ready for adoption.

Harmony

Harmony
Harmony
Harmony's tiny family was born in a cold stainless steel cage at a shelter on January 10th. She plucked her own fur and built a soft and comfortable nest for her babies, and tried her best to care for them and protect them. Space at the shelter is limited, and litters are always at risk there. The shelter advocate called for immediate rescue. After a few days there, Harmony and her litter were taken away from there and brought into loving foster care with The Haven.

Harmony and her family are now with their new foster mom, Tracy! Oh, what a lucky bunny mom! She is loved and snuggled, safe and well cared for. Take a look at her photos, and those of her little ones. See the adorable line up of tiny ones in their original nest. Too precious for words.

Our thanks to our shelter advocate, Lily, who helped set up this rescue and saved all their lives. Harmony may be adopted by Tracy in eight weeks or she will go on to another stellar rescue group when the babies are eight weeks old. Then, the little ones will come back to The Haven. Precious Harmony, nicknamed Daisy by her foster family, is continuing to heal and respond to the loving care she is receiving. She is given lots of food and hay and is a fantastic bunny mom. Kudos to Harmony and her bunny angel, Lily and to Tracy who is fostering Harmony and the babies. She is growing healthier every day and more secure in the loving arms of her foster family.

Watch for updates.
