34 Rabbits Confiscated from a San Jose Breeder
Update: October 8, 2011
Update on the San Jose area confiscation and rescue
Ten additional rabbits were taken from the breeder site in San Jose and brought to the shelter. They are much more frightened and scared that the first group. Poor bunnies. Now we have only 14 left to get out plus any litters we find. The only thing holding us back is space to put such large numbers of rabbits. Blessings to the shelter staff that are going out to help remove the rabbits and to Lily in San Jose who is a triage site and who is providing direction and hope for these loving rabbits.
Lily visited with all the rabbits last night and did T-touch on them today to see if it would help . The black bunny with a white stripe and a white nose is a rex. She is very scared and wimpering. The bunny hiding behind the hay is so terrified she hardly moves. The others are scared, but with love, proper food and housing, and support they will be just fine in a month or two. Help us by offering a space in your home or sponsoring one of these rabbits please. Adopt one. Anything you can think of - donate, send supplies (food, hay toys, bedding) We will use it all .
This red dwarf has severe genital wounds. The injuries are so severe that we were unable to determine sex, but we think this is a female. Most likely this rabbit will require surgery. We will get a vet consultation soon. She is on medications to stop the spread of infection and as of today she is housed in a rescue medical site. Most of the rabbits from this rescue were females. Two are minilops, the rest holland lops plus one black and white rex. They need to be more closely assessed medically and set up for spay/neuter and triage tomorrow . They are in receiving cages as of today. Worlds better than their bare wire cages without food or water at the rabbit breeders rabbit mill.
Send your love, healing energy and any support you can think of. Help us get them all out please. You can call us at 831 600-7479 or email at director@therabbithaven.org if you can help in any way. We are also taking donations for these bunnies, to cover their veterinary care, spay/neuter and placement in foster homes. If you would like to donate, you can use The Rabbit Haven's PayPal account or donate by check. Please indicate that your donation is for the San Jose breeder rescue. Together, we can get these rabbits to safety and on the road to recovery and homes of their own.

A large scale 34+ rabbit confiscation is in progress now at a breeder site in San Jose. All forms of assistance are needed right away! As with most breeders, there are a large number of breeding females and an assortment of males. The shelter has started to confiscate the rabbits from a backyard "Chihuahua & rabbit" breeder. Yes, you read that right. He was breeding dogs and rabbits at the same site! The shelter had to leave the Chihuahuas for now and are pulling the rabbits first as they are in much worse living conditions without regular food, water, and housed with very limited space.

The shelter only had room for ten right now so they left the other 24 rabbits with the breeder until more space can be found. Any rabbit that can be moved will help save the life of the others left behind. Please help us get these rabbits out to safety. Urgent foster support is needed for moms and litters, and babies. Rabbit Haven will provide foster set up supply- Rescue from other non profit rescue groups happily accepted. Spay neuter assistance is being offered for these rabbits. Please contact us at 831 600-7479 or Lily at 408 221-0425 or at the following emails director@therabbithaven.org or lilipad3@hotmail.com

These confiscated rabbits will need space right away to save their lives. These rabbits are coming from hideous conditions. There are lion head babies, adult lion heads, rex bunnies and lops. Anyone have a little space for one of these rabbits? Please look around and see where even a Marchioro can go. We have Marchioro cages or x pens at our Santa Cruz site. These bunnies have nice personalities overall. The vet staff at the shelter will be checking them over today. Tomorrow we can begin transporting these rabbits to foster support. If you need help with coordinating pick up, call Lily to make arrangements at 408-221-0425 .

These photos are of seven of the confiscated bunnies at the shelter now. The Haven is taking in two today including the baby. The two that were very sick, the brown male rex with severe ear mites (the bunny who has it's back to the camera) and a chubby brown female mini-rex with bilateral cataracts (Last photo.) These rabbits were removed from the shelter to save them from euthanasia. They are still available for rescue. As the other 24 rabbits are brought into the shelter, we will be posting additional information and photos. If we have foster support on stand by, the shelter will work with us to bring the rabbit in to safety.

Please help by calling to offer personal support or send a donation to The Rabbit Haven's PayPal account or by check. We will need funds to spay / neuter these bunnies and to treat their injures right away! We also need help with transport from San Jose to Fremont to the For Paws Spay & Neuter Clinic this Thursday. Can you help? We will also need transport assistance from For Paws back to San Jose.

We look forward to hearing from you. Please help us help these unfortunate bunnies. There are more of them to get out that will be coming in soon. We need your help now.
