Update: June 6, 2007

After a dog mauling, rescue by a local shelter, countless x-rays to diagnose her injuries and having her back leg put in an uncomfortable sling due to a dislocation injury, sweet Sedona has given birth to seven healthy kits! The delivery happened Wednesday June 6. This gal's a trooper. She was too tired to pull much of a nest, just a few straggly puffs of fur; she probably couldn't reach it well with her back leg in traction. But she gave birth with her leg in a sling thank you very much and all seven kits appear healthy!

Here she is taking a break and enjoying some much loved Spring mix. All seven babies look like the normal black and white Dutch and this golden mommy is so proud.

The shelter advocate called in panic at 5PM - they had an injured, shocky bunny that needed medical help. The bunny was seriously injured - her back leg was unable to move and was non functional. She was not eating, drinking or able to sustain herself. Without funds to help her, they called for immediate rescue. She could not be treated without rescue, so we agreed to rescue her immediately. We quickly learned that she had been attacked by a dog then brought to a local shelter as a "stray". The shelter advocate raced her to our vet where emergency surgery was performed.
We named the bunny Sedona. Her injuries included shock, trauma and a badly dislocated hind leg. She also sustained crush injuries but no major tears (thank goodness). She required surgery immediately to save her leg. Her surgery was performed by our guardian bunny angel, Dr. Hawklyn of Creekside Vet Hospital. Dr. Hawklyn stayed an extra two hours to do this surgery! The doctor repaired the leg injury and then placed Sedona in a sling which she needs to wear for the next week - then we learned more news.... this little girl is pregnant! Dr. Hawklyn discovered seven near term kits inside of her when she x-rayed the rabbit's leg. We were very concerned that Sedona would deliver during the surgery - but she didn't. Now she is in foster care at the Rabbit Haven - we just have to wait to see what happens. In the next day or two we will know if the babies will make it or not.

Sedona is a beautiful, tiny golden Dutch girl. If she recovers, after she has her babies and they are weaned at 8 weeks, she can be spayed - then if her leg is healed and she is up to it she can be adopted. Help us help little Sedona. She is as sweet as can be, even though she's been through so much, we think she's going to make someone a very wonderful bunny companion some day. Sedona is so trusting after all the trauma she has suffered and while in pain . She is on strict bed rest in her own room at one of our foster sites now. Thank goodness the local shelter representative, our local veterinarian, and our Rabbit Haven volunteers were all able to jump through hoops quickly and rescue and provide care for this little bunny today. If you would like to help please contact us. Her first surgery and meds alread cost over $250.00 - She may need another surgery if the crush injury has destroyed her babies or caused her to be unable to deliver the babies. Watch for updates.

Sponsors are needed for all our little ones - Your sponsorship will pay for their veterinary care, food, housing costs. Help some bunny today! Sponsor a baby bunny! You can make a cash donation to help with via Paypal, or donate by check
