Houdini was rescued!
March 28, 2007
Houdini is safe tonight in a caring home with Rabbit Haven volunteers. He was down to his last few hours at the shelter,
where there was no longer room for him. He had to get out today. When we learned about his situation, Haven volunteers went into
high gear trying to get him out and safe. Late this afternoon, he was whisked out of the shelter by a Haven transporter, picked up by
another Haven volunteer, and then finally brought home by his new foster family. Houdini's story has generated many calls, notes and emails
of support and encouragement. We really appreciate how the bunny community from around the world has responded to Houdini's plight.
We have a wonderful family who is very interested in adopting Houdini, so he may be on the move again soon. We will keep you updated
on Houdini's search for his forever home.
Here is a quick update that Houdini sent us:
Hello Auntie Heather,
My new residence is so much bigger than the old one! I have lots of cozy blankets to pile up however I like, really cool toys that jingle when
I bonk them with my nose, and food, oh my, so much great food! They have the yummiest hay here, I have never tasted anything like it. I have my own
litter box too, filled with hay, that I can just relax in if I want to. There is also a little box in here, with a door that is just the right size
for me to sneak into, and it is perfect for chewing so I can make it just the way I like it. And it is so quiet here! No clanging doors or barking dogs,
just my foster family talking to me. I can tell that there are other bunnies living here, but I know that they are really happy here, not like the
other place at all.
After exploring my new house, I spent some time on the floor with my foster Dad. He just let me run around and hop in this really big space! I can't
remember the last time I was able to have so much room to play! My foster Dad then picked me up and took me to this special chair that rocks back and forth.
I was a little scared, but he just kept stroking my ears and rubbing my nose and I started to relax. No one has ever done that with me before.
Thank you so much for getting me out of that old place Auntie Heather, and please say thank you to all of the other humans who helped get me here.
I think I am going to like being a house rabbit!
