Shuman The Rabbit Haven Annmarie and Ashley Curly Sue

Welcome to The Rabbit Haven, a community of and for rabbits and their guardians, serving the Bay Area since 1987.

The Rabbit Haven rescues injured and abandoned rabbits and accepts surrendered rabbits from the general public or the SPCA in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Benito and Monterey Counties.  We then work to place these rescued rabbits into loving permanent or foster homes. The Rabbit Haven also works in the community, at schools, and with our local SPCA shelter and other education groups to educate the public on rabbit care, feeding, grooming, medical needs, social requirements and behaviors.

Lonnie

Meet Lonnie

Hello my name is Lonnie. I'm a Hotot type bunny- you can tell that from the black eyeliner around my eyes. I am a neutered male bunny looking for a friendly home with lots of room to roam. My foster home is nice, but I don't get as much exercise time as I would like because there are so many bunnies needing a turn. I'd really like a cottontail cottage to climb on. I really don't like dogs and their barking really scares me. I would prefer a home with no dogs. I have a little problem on one of my eyes which makes me “special” needs. I have an early onset cataract! Yep, there it is – the vet says it is ok just the way it is and it does not bother me. But you would need to help me by watching it to make sure I see a vet once yearly and I need to be able to open and close that eye. I am such a good boy you won’t even notice and I CAN see out of that eye. I am special. My vet is Dr Carolynn Harvey. She’s pretty special too.

PetCo to Stop Selling Rabbits

We are pleased to announce that Petco has chosen to stop the sale of rabbits in their stores and to focus on in store adoptions working with shelters and a variety of noon profit animals rescue groups. Adoption First is their new motto. We applaud Petco for their compassionate choice! Hopefully this choice will continue to expand to include all other animals that may be sold in their stores.

Here is the report: Monday, November 17, 2008

PETCO Moves to Adoption-Only for Rabbits reported from petco news.

PETCO is expanding adoptions of rabbits in all of our stores nationwide!

The company states "As part of our commitment to saving more animal lives, we're phasing out the sale of rabbits in stores where we now sell them, and reaching out to rabbit adoption groups to join with us in finding forever homes for more rabbits in those stores and all of our stores across the country. We're looking forward to expanding our existing relationships with the many adoption groups we're already working with, and pleased to offer this important opportunity to rabbit rescue groups nationwide".

This news came direct from Marcie Whichard, Vice President of Animal Care & Education-PETco, San Diego What great news - another large pet store decided to stop the sale of rabbits! Not only this but they also recognize that rescue groups are critical to saving animals loves and now are partnering with many new groups! Great news for rabbits and the world! binkies to all.
