UPDATE 3/4/07
Another update from Marcy at SaveABunny, who is caring for Priyani.
Princess Priyani developed an abscess in her ear that continued to be painful, swollen and infected despite daily medication
and regular ear flushes at SaveABunny. So, on Saturday, March 2, she went to visit her doctor to have her ear area anesthetized,
deeply lanced and flushed.
Her ear needed to be lanced to open up a larger section of the outer ear, so that the infection could be reached and the ear
irrigated. Each day Princess Priyani's medical routine takes about 45 minutes. First we give her pain medicine before inserting
a plastic needle to flush the wound with sterile saline. Then we give her antibiotics and ear drops containing Baytril
and Silvadene to sooth the area and help it heal.
Princess Priyani is a very sweet rabbit, but it is clear that she doesn't like the ear treatments. Now sadly, she flinches
and it seems very uncomfortable. We do our best to help her relax by talking with her and letting her know what we are doing
and why. She is very responsive to being talked with and loves to get a lot of attention. She's becoming quite a beautiful
rabbit. Thank you for your compassion and support. Watch here for more pictures soon!

UPDATE 3/2/07
Priyani is regal and self-composed with a strong will to live. She has a second name now too, Princess Priayni. She has
improved a great deal since she arrived a few weeks ago and the fur mites are gone. Her fur is beginning to grow back
and she has put on weight and regained strength.
The main issue we are dealing with now is an abscess in Priyani's ear that is both very painful and potentially dangerous
if it turns septic - meaning the infection goes throughout her system. We have increased her medication and flush her ear area
frequently, but we may need to add injectable Penicillin , which is safe in most rabbits, but can cause a fatal reaction in rare cases.
Princess Priyani is a very brave and special rabbit. We love her and we are doing everything we can to help her heal.
We will keep you posted on her progress. She remains in foster care with Marcy of Saveabunny, a wonderful person
with the kindness of an angel. The foster site reports that she is most cooperative in her ear flushing treatments and
that she is extremely happy to be held and loved.

This is our most recent rescue, Priyani. This sweet bunny was found on the streets and was picked up by animal control, and then sent to a shelter.
She is terribly injured, suffering from a severe mite infestation, dehydration and starvation. She could not even stand when she first arrived.
It must have taken months for her to get in this condition. It is hard to imagine who could possibly let this happen to her.

Priyani (loved one) is an angel. She had been starved and is at least one pound underweight. She was ridden with mites, so she lost all
the fur on her head and ears and some of the tissue on her ears and neck. She is very receptive to care and is easy to care for.
She must be hand fed, and receive meds two times a day. Her blistered, damaged and injured skin must be treated with SSD cream three times a day.
This precious bunny girl seems to have a strong will to survive and eats slurry and takes her medications easily.
She can stand on her own today and grows stronger and stronger with every hour. We love her. To help support her care, you can donate

We will keep you posted on her progress. This darling girl was yet another 'Stray' found in the san Jose city area. She sat at a shelter for
days, alone, until we learned about her condition when a kind shelter manger called us. Now she will be safe and loved forever. Her fur will grow back.
It will take months, but we are willing to give her all the time she needs to heal.

Priyani is now in isolation care at a hospital site with SaveABunny. She is receiving the very best care that can be provided for her. We remain hopeful that she can make a complete recovery and enjoy the life she deserves, away from illness and pain.
