Visiting a Rabbit Haven Adoption Show - pre COVID-19

Adoption Shows

The Rabbit Haven holds adoption shows three times a month. These events are the best way for people to meet our adoptable animals, learn more about their care, and adopt them. Each show offers 15-35 adoptable animals plus experts to answer any questions you might have about animals and their care. Our shows are always open to the public and are free of charge. You can see a schedule of our adoption events on the home page of the website.

Before You Go

Before attending a show, you can see the available animals on our adoption showcases. When you find animals of interest to you, contact our director Auntie Heather at (831) 600-7479 between 11AM and 7PM or email director@therabbithaven.org. She can tell you more about the animals of interest, and may be able to arrange an appointment for you to meet specific animals at a show. Appointments are not required, but are highly recommended to be sure you get to meet the animals best suited for you. You should also fill out our pre-adoption questionnaire and email it to director@therabbithaven.org so that we can get to know you better and find the best companion for you.

What to expect at an adoption show

When you enter the adoption show area, you will be greeted by a Haven volunteer and asked to sign in. You will then be shown into the adoption area, where you will find adoptable animals. Each pen or cage will contain a single rabbit or pair of bonded animals, and will have a poster on the outside showing the animal's photograph, the name and a description of the personality. There will be chairs available for you to sit, and Haven volunteers to help you pick up and hold animals. These volunteers will also be able to discuss basic animal care and behavior with you. If you are interested in a particular animal, there are meet and greet areas where you can sit on the floor with an animal and interact with them on their own level.

Services available at adoption shows:

  • Adoption
You can adopt your new animal friend right at the show. Our Haven counselors will step you through the adoption process and provide vital information about the care of your new friend. We will also provide you with valuable coupons for a free first vet visit and discounts on supplies.
  • Bonding/Matchmaking
If you are looking for a friend for your bunny or guinea pig, we can help you find the perfect match. Our experienced bonders will work with your animal and several potential mates, helping you choose the one that best matches your animal's temperament.
  • Advice about feeding, grooming, and care
Rabbit Haven volunteers are always available to answer your questions about animals, their care, and their behavior. These experts can tell you everything you'll need to know to keep your new friend safe, happy, and healthy.
  • Nail trimming and scent gland cleaning for a small donation
At each adoption show, Rabbit Haven volunteers are available to trim bunny and guinea pig nails and clean your bunny's scent glands for a small donation. These volunteers are also available to give you advice about grooming.
  • Home Health Checks for rabbits
Haven Health check staff can provide a home health check up, then show you how to do these at home on a regular basis. This nose to toes exam can allow you to catch health problems with your bunny before they become serious issues. When you adopt a bunny, they will also show you how to perform this important check yourself.
  • Shopping assistance for supplies
All the supplies that you'll need for your new friend are available at the stores that host our shows. A Haven volunteer will take you around the store, showing you the best food, toys and housing items to purchase for your new friend. You'll also receive a coupon for a discount on your purchases of supplies.
